122 Research Reflection by Shaistah Din

Faculty Mentor: Marissa Diener (Family and Consumer Studies, University of Utah)

The opportunity to participate in this clinical research study has been one of the most impactful experiences of my undergraduate career. Not only was I able to participate in research that was of interest to me and directly related to my passions, but I have also gained an amazing group of colleagues along the way through Dr. Diener and my fellow research peers. Moreover, I am a double major in biology & health, society, and policy. Overlapping these two fields has enriched my undergraduate experience and as a prospective medical student, I have learned so much along the way. As an interdisciplinary student, I have been able to gain multiple perspectives that I know will be of benefit to me in the future as a healthcare worker. The research I am a part of directly relates to the public health field and has implications in the medical arena as well. My future goal is to be a physician that advocates for women’s health and this research is a crucial aspect of spreading awareness and knowledge about a significant prenatal disease. I am honored to be able to be a part of this study and am looking forward to the future work that will be done in this field.
