Unit 3 Introduction
The body is made up of trillions of cells that come together to form tissues, which work together to give organs their specific functions. How cells develop, multiply, and function is the basis for everything that happens in the body. The body expends a great amount of energy trying to keep everything working right and in balance. This process is called homeostasis and is central to the field of physiology, or the study of how the body works.
Objectives
After completing this unit, you will be able to:
- Name common terms used to describe molecules, cells, and tissues.
- Describe how these terms are built by combining prefixes, roots, and suffixes in combinations which give them meaning.
