About the Authors
Eddie Hill is an associate professor in the Outdoor & Community Recreation Education program at Weber State University. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Utah, focusing on youth development and diabetes management. Eddie has worked as a middle special education teacher in the commercial recreation sector and the non-profit area. His research interests include youth development, outdoor education, camp, health, out-of-school-time programming, and motivation for diabetes management. He has a strong record of scholarship in the area of youth development and health & wellness. Eddie has 25+ years of experience as a challenge course facilitator, Outward Bound field staff, and educator. He is also a Certified Park and Recreation Professional. Eddie lives in Ogden, UT with his wife Laura, son Aiden, and dog Clark, where they enjoy spending time outdoors.
Ron Ramsing is a professor and Fellow for Faculty Development in the College of Health and Human Services at Western Kentucky University. He has worked for several not-for-profit, federal, and commercial organizations, including a state fish and wildlife agency. With 25+ years of experience in the field, his research has most recently focused on positive youth development, organized camping and youth with type 1 diabetes, international education outcomes, leadership, and sustainability issues. Ron has co-authored two books, 45+ publications, and 100+ presentations at the state, national, and international levels. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Oregon, his M.S. from the University of Northern Iowa, and his Ph.D. from the University of Utah. In his spare time, Ron enjoys hiking, camping, and traveling with his daughter, Ellie, and wife, Lisa.
