My undergraduate research experience has encouraged me to pursue graduate school after completing my degree in Environmental and Sustainability Studies. It was fulfilling to experience the cycle of a research project under the guide of Dr. Collins. The research began with a question I had about shade disparity in the community I lived in and rolled from there into partnerships with UROP and the Wilkes Center for Climate Science and Policy. This is the first research project I have undertaken and every day has been a new learning experience as I aimed to make this project impactful, interesting, and applicable. The value of hands-on research experience cannot be understated – it has helped me solidify the classes and coursework of my degree and has given me confidence that I can succeed as a graduate student and future researcher of environmental justice and global climate change.
