25 Research Reflection by Elizabeth Bowman

Faculty Mentor: Daniel Davis (Health & Kinesiology, University of Utah)
Among all my undergraduate research opportunities, this program has truly stood out as my top experience. I have always been curious about the world of biomechanics, especially mechanical loading of the bone, but my experience this summer introduced me to new perspectives in topics such as metabolic cost, joint angles, and muscle contribution. I learned new techniques such as writing a literature review and preparing for graduate school, as well as how to carry myself at a conference. My mentor, Danny Davis, greatly exceeded my expectations, spending hours to help me understand advanced topics, always being available to answer my questions, and consistently exciting me about the field of biomechanics. I hope to continue fostering the relationships that were created in the Sayu Lab this summer. After attending this program, I am confident in my decision to pursue my Ph.D. in biomedical engineering with a focus on biomechanics. I am grateful for the opportunity to travel to the beautiful state of Utah and my selection to participate in this program.
