Drawing Conclusions
After collecting data and talking to the students, we had a much better understanding of where students were at.
Statistically, Our Findings Were:
- 72% of students spend over $100 on textbooks in one semester.
- 37 out of 48 students have been negatively impacted by the price of textbooks in some way, with 35% of those affected having been affected a lot or severely.
- 71% of students had never heard of OERs before talking to us, but 63% of them had been in and appreciated classes where they were not required to pay for the learning materials used.
- After learning about OERs, 95% of students were interested in using them
Based on what students said in there statements about the price of textbooks, we found several themes. Lots of students mentioned how this added financial stress to their lives, and several mentioned that they didn’t feel like they were using the textbooks enough for it to be worth how much they spent on them.
