30 Scheduling Library Peer Mentors (LPM)

What are Library Peer Mentors

In January 2004, Utah State University launched its Library Peer Mentor (LPM) program. The program was designed to hire students to assist at the reference desk and in the classroom, extending the reach of librarians.

When They Might Be Useful

Scheduling library instruction teaches students how to use library resources and other sources of information and develops their skills and expertise as researchers and information consumers. USU libraries offer instructors of all disciplines the opportunity to collaborate with library faculty and staff to provide library instruction tailored to your subject area and teaching needs.

Library workshops to your classes can be conducted via face-to-face, zoom, and broadcast formats. Library workshops provide opportunities for a more focused library instruction and guided research support. To ensure a librarian is available to visit your class, please provide at least 2 weeks advanced notice for library workshops. Students seeking more in-depth help can meet with a librarian for one-on-one or small-group consultations. Consultations provide an opportunity for students to discuss and explore their research topics, learn more about sources, and develop a research strategy alongside a librarian.

How To schedule

You should receive an email from your designated contact person at the library for help with information literacy instruction for your English 1010 classes. You can set up a 20-min library orientation presentation or 20-minutes of Research Support by using this request form. Your designated contact person at the library or one of the Library Peer Mentors would be happy to come. Their schedule tends to fill up quickly, so submit your request sooner than later for best availability.
