57 Ray B. West: English Department Building
The English Department is located in the Ray B. West (RWST) building, located at the southwest corner of the main quad. RWST is a historic building constructed in 1918. It has been used for many purposes since it was built, including serving as a barracks and military training center during World War I, as well as home to the engineering and education departments.
The building was dedicated and renamed the “Ray B. West” building in 1986 in honor of a USU engineer, and administrator (1912-1936). It became home to the English dept. in 1990. Ray B. West’s son (Ray B. West, Jr.) was also an English professor in the department in the 1970s. Check out his groovy photo by the breakroom!
RWST is linked to the Family Life building (located directly east of RWST) by connecting hallways. The Family Life building is home to the Human Development and Family Studies dept. and the Adele and Dale Young Child Development Laboratory. It also houses the Caine Room on the first floor, which is often used for speaker events and receptions.
