41 Composition Program and the Writing Center
The Composition Program coordinates with the Writing Center by incorporating required tutoring sessions into the curricula for each student enrolled in a first-year composition course (see the sample curricula for English 1010 and 2010 for examples of how tutoring sessions are integrated into the courses as required visits). The Writing Center also invites instructors to schedule class visits, during which a Writing Center tutor visits a class and explains the many services the Writing Center offers to their students. Class visits are 5-10 minutes long but can be fine-tuned to suit the course’s needs. Instructors may refer students to the Writing Center to schedule regular visits throughout the semester.
The Writing Center supports faculty in the Composition Program in helping their students excel with the writing and thinking required in first-year composition courses. The close coordination with the Writing Center in these courses ensures that students are aware of the services The Writing Center can provide throughout their college careers.
