22 Research Reflection by Lia Westermann

Faculty Mentor: Greg Clark (Biomedical Engineering, University of Utah)

My research experience working on the myoelectric control of prosthetic hands in biomedical engineering allowed me to apply classroom concepts to real-world challenges in a hands-on environment. Working under the supervision of a mentor gave me valuable guidance early on, but as the project progressed, I gained greater independents in designing experiments, analyzing data, and troubleshooting problems. This experience strengthened my critical thinking and problem-solving skills and taught me how to approach complex scientific questions with creativity and persistence. It also confirmed my passion for medicine and biomedical innovation and inspired me to pursue a career where I can contribute to improving patient care through research and technology development.
