Participating in this research project and being a part of UROP during my undergraduate years has greatly enhanced both my undergraduate experience and my resume. Through this project, my writing was strengthened, I became familiar with Praat software and acoustic analysis, and learned how to analyze measurements and synthesize findings. I have had the wonderful opportunity to work with my mentor Tanya Flores, whose expertise and guidance were helpful, educative, and encouraging throughout the process of carrying out this case study.
This particular project combined my two majors and minor–Speech & Hearing Sciences and Spanish, with a Linguistics minor. It further affirmed my decision to pursue a career in Speech Language Pathology. I plan to attend graduate school to get a Master’s in Speech-Language Pathology with a Spanish-English bilingual emphasis. I am interested in pursuing further research in the field of bilingual speech and language acquisition during my years in graduate school and throughout my career as an SLP. It is my hope that research experience within this topic will be beneficial when working as a school-based SLP with children of Spanish-speaking backgrounds.
