150 Research Reflection by Phoenix Hines

Faculty Mentor: Sarah Creem-Regehr (Psychology, University of Utah)

The majority of my undergraduate research was spent with Dr. Sarah Creem-Regehr in the VAAST lab, studying and testing navigation. I was given the opportunity to work face-to-face with participants, run experiments on my own, lead a team, and understand the fundamentals of data analysis. I loved the technical side that cognitive neural science added to my existing knowledge about psychology and I found my experience in the lab to be incredibly valuable. Additionally, I was a part of the Utah Radon Lab where I was able to apply much of what I learned about research from my time in the VAAST lab. My research experience showed me how much I enjoy the process of research and has inspired me to continue pursuing some form of research while I expand my education. I’m specifically interested in health research, like public health research, environmental health research, and genetic research. My background with psychology and psychological research gives me a unique and human perspective to other areas of research. I hope to apply these skills as often as I can.
