4. Anesthesia: Chronic Pain

Evaluation Dialogue Between Doctor-Patient:
Doctor Good morning. How are you feeling?
Doctor Is the pain constant throughout the day or does it come and go?
Doctor Do you feel a cramping or burning sensation?
Doctor Which medication have you tried?
Patient He tomado antiinflamatorios: paracetamol y tramadol.
Doctor You are probably suffering from lumbago, and I can offer you an injection treatment called a caudal epidural block. It can take the pain away for a few weeks.
Doctor I’ll give you an appointment. You’ll have to get blood work done before the procedure, have someone come with you, and fast for six hours prior.
Doctor Many patients feel much better, but others do not. In your case, it’s worth a try since this technique can help relieve a lot of pain. You have been resistant to other, less invasive, treatments.
