21. Pneumology: Pneumonia

Evaluation Dialogue Between Doctor-Patient:
Doctor Good afternoon, take a seat. Tell me why you came in.
Patient Tengo dolor de garganta, tos y mocos verdes. Amdeás, estoy con fiebre de 38,5 °C desde hace 4 días.
Doctor Could you confirm what it says in your chart, that you are 42 years old and have not had any previous illnesses?
Patient Así es, doctora.
Doctor Very well. Come to the table and we’ll do a physical auscultation examination of your lungs and take your oxygen saturation levels.
Doctor It seems that you could have pneumonia. We’re going to take an X-ray of your chest and do blood work.
Post-Examination Dialogue Between Doctor-Patient:
Doctor Indeed, Maria, you have pneumonia in the bottom part of your right lung. You’ll take Amoxicillin/Clavulanate and Azithromycin, two antibiotics.
Patient ¡Lo siento! Se me olvidó decirle que soy alérgica a la amoxicilina.
Doctor OK. Then you won’t take those. You’ll take Levofloxacin, one pill with breakfast and one with dinner, for 7 days. You’ll also take Paracetamol for the fever.
Patient De acuerdo.
Doctor We’ll see you for a consultation in 7 days. However, if symptoms worsen, the fever persists or worsens, or you have any other symptoms, call to come in for a consultation. If it’s outside normal business hours, go to the emergency room.
Patient Eso haré.
Doctor See you soon and feel better.
