5 Course Development Tasks
As an Instructional Designer (ID) you will be working on various course development tasks ranging from a full course design to course enhancements of some kind. In some cases you will be starting from scratch and will need to create a Dev shell.
Dedicated ID Builds
A Dedicated ID Build (formerly a “UFLC build”) involves an instructor working with a specific Instructional Designer over a semester to build a flexible course. Funding for Dedicated ID Builds is limited and is allocated for these priorities:
- Online programs
- GE courses, preference to high enrollment
- Other flexible courses
Consultation Builds
Consultation Builds happen when Instructional Designers from a pool are assigned tasks associated with course design.
These kinds of builds have two purposes. First, they are for experienced instructors who want to develop a new, certified course on a more flexible timeline. Second, they are intended for courses that do not need a complete redesign but are missing components necessary to be certified.
Priorities for Consultation Builds are as follows:
- GE courses, preference to high enrollment
- Online courses in online programs
- Other flexible courses
Consultations
Consultation tasks may be supported by one or more instructional designers. When meeting with faculty who request a consultation, you will discuss course needs and any enhancements that might be needed.
