5 Software
You will be using several different software programs in your role in the Office of Teaching and Learning.
Clocking Your Time in TIMS
- TIMS is used for clocking in and out and keeping track of your hours
Communicating and Sharing Resources with Your Team
The following programs are used for communicating and sharing resources with your team:
- Microsoft Teams: A messaging app that has different chats and channels for communication.
- Monday.com: A project management tool used for communicating details of projects and tasks.
- Outlook: The program we use for emails and scheduling.
- SharePoint: A file sharing system used throughout UVU.
Read more about our Office Communications tools and the SharePoint File Structure.
Building Courses and Course Assets
The following programs are used for building courses and assets for courses:
- Canvas: The Learning Management System where UVU courses are built and housed. Different programs are embedded in Canvas to be used by UVU students.
- In Canvas you will create DEV shells, which is short for ‘Development Shell’ where you will build courses. Once these are built and reviewed they will be exported to live courses run by the professor.
- You can create temporary courses or sandbox courses in Canvas as well. A sandbox course allows you to ‘play’ and experiment Canvas (ex: try out coding & embedding resources). You can also keep track of techniques and tools you use in your own sandbox course so you can reference that course as you build other courses.
- Adobe Creative Cloud: A series of programs for editing videos, images, and other content to be used for instructional content.
- H5P: A program that helps you build interactive content (presentations, quizzes, crossword puzzles, etc.).
- StoryMaps: A program for creating webpages with interactive scrolling features.
- Storyline: An eLearning authoring tool that allows you to create customizable interactive content.
- Pressbooks: A platform that allows you to create online books (like this one).
- Qualtrics: A tool for building online surveys and collecting data.
See all UVU software options on this webpage. You can also read more about different software used by OTL in the optional software chapter.
