University of Utah Graduate Program in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing 1957-2023
Since 1957 University of Utah’s graduate program in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing has evolved as advances have been made in knowledge and understanding of mental illness. To trace the evolution of the program’s five variables will be addressed by decade. They are:
1) Mainstream theories of mental illness and treatment approaches
2) National trends and their local impact
3) Leadership, faculty, curriculum, and practice
4) Utah Nurse Practice Act
5) Community groups and their influence.
