21 Section 2: Course Outcomes and Summative Assessments

Now begin to apply the Backward Design principles.

In this section of the design plan, record the Course Outcomes.

If your course is not a UVU course, you will need to write your own outcomes.

Otherwise, copy the course outcomes from CourseLeaf (Image 3):

Paste the course outcomes into the left column of the Backward Design Process table you see in the design plan (Image 3-1):

As you brainstorm the summative assessments, ask yourself, “How will students show they have achieved the course outcomes?”

Record your summative assessments in the right column of the Backward Design Process table (Image 4). Be sure they align with your course outcomes!
