5 Determining Acceptable Evidence: Step 2 of Backward Design

Acceptable Evidence

Step 2 of Backward Design is determining acceptable evidence.

In higher education, both summative and formative assessments have important roles. Summative assessments ensure accountability and provide a measure of student achievement, while formative assessments support student growth and help instructors adjust their teaching strategies to better meet students’ needs. The combination of both types of assessments can lead to a more effective and comprehensive educational experience.
